11/9/2023 0 Comments Movie vox luxThe first, of course, was Gaga herself, playing the semiautobiographical role of striving waitress turned pop star Ally in Bradley Cooper’s sweeping remake of A Star Is Born. Sure, pop music retains an effectiveness when not asking too much of its listeners-but Vox Lux and its insipid attempts at creating a fictional pop world functions as a cautionary tale in the face of such a banal truism: Treating your audience as if they’re stupid tends to reflect poorly on everyone except the audience themselves. For a brief, surreal moment early in last year’s Oscar season, it looked as though the Best Actress category could come down to a duel between two different versions of Lady Gaga. “I’m a private girl/ In a public world,” Portman sings competently on “Private Girl” through thickets of vocal processing that are practically tactile in their over-application the sentiment lands with a dull thud of obviousness that suffocates the music as well as the film it’s attached to. She makes big-sounding music with Kurstin frequently at her side, but through writing songs for Celeste’s fictional oeuvre, their sweeping approach takes the form of an obnoxious blare. Her days as lead vocalist for British chillout group Zero 7 aside, Sia’s never really been much for subtlety listening to her strongest and most effective singles can provide the emotional uplift of hang-gliding to the top of a mountain with fireworks timed to explode the moment you reach the peak. If Walker’s contributions simply fade into the scenery, then Sia and Kurstin’s work represents the opposite. Walker’s scoring gets the job done in the truest sense, to the point where much of his music feels incidental when removed from the images it accompanies his “Opening Credits” theme stands out the most here, with piping, eerie vocals and unsettling ambience only matched by the horrifying, hollowed-out center of “Terrorist.” Otherwise, Walker’s orchestral compositions-which provide a solid, melodramatic foil to Corbet’s onscreen pretension-largely lose their effectiveness in a home-listening environment, a fans-only experience far removed from the obtuse high art of his solo material and collaborations with Sunn O))). Sadly, neither of the soundtrack’s halves provide much to sink one’s teeth into. Divorced from the screen, the Vox Lux soundtrack literally represents a split release between two of the pop machine’s most capable tinkerers and one of the most offbeat musicians of the last 40 years-a prospect as enticing as it is wholly representative of the film’s own thoughtless framework. For viewers looking to engage more fully with the music, there’s the soundtrack itself, which tacks on 10 instrumental score cues composed by legendary avant-garde figure Scott Walker (who also handled scoring on Corbet’s previous feature, the fascist-focused 2015 The Childhood of a Leader). Written and produced by Sia and ubiquitous pop guy Greg Kurstin (Adele, Halsey), most of the ten Cassidy-and-Portman-performed songs the duo composed for the film are jammed into subpar concert footage that closes out the film’s last 20 minutes. As target practice for the target-rich machinations of pop music itself, Vox Lux feels as forced as Portman’s Staten Island accent.Īmid these grasps for meaning, the clearest aspect of Vox Lux becomes its general disregard for the music itself. As a meditation about the daily horror of mass shootings in America and the accidental stardom that can accompany becoming the face of tragedy, it’s purely anachronistic the assertion that Celeste’s elegiac post-shooting song “Wrapped Up” could go viral in the early 2000s anticipates the normalcy of regular violence and instant fame in a way that betrays the pre-viral time period. As young Celeste (Raffey Cassidy) survives an unbelievable tragedy that’s become all-too-believable while her older self (Natalie Portman) is trapped in a cycle of self-loathing and trauma, Vox Lux attempts to tilt at a few thematic windmills-the American culture of violence, how said culture intersects with pop iconography, the pressure we place on public figures to behave in a way that reflects our own assumed system of belief-without fully committing to any one beat.

You'll even unlock interoperability with Skype for Business, in the event that your team is transitioning from another platform. Zoom One Pro adds some features that could be beneficial to your business as well, including analytical reporting and social media streaming to Facebook Live and YouTube. Additionally, you get access to live chat support options, so you can actually get any help you need quickly and effectively. But don't worry if you have a tendency to host really long meetings – you'll get 5GB of cloud storage per license for storing meeting recordings. You'll also essentially get rid of the meeting cap, moving it to a full 30 hours, which no reasonable person would ever need to exceed. Zoom One Pro comes with all the features listed above while allowing for 100 meeting participants and up to 9 licenses. With Zoom One Pro, you'll be able to get a little more flexibility for your team for only $12.49 per license, per month. While the Zoom One Basic plan is decidedly robust for a free plan, it does have some notable limitations, like time caps and limited support options. Zoom One Pro – $12.49 per user, per month This makes it one of the more robust free plans available on the market today, which is why we consider it one of the best web conferencing platforms you can use. There's also a Team Chat function for collaboration and file sharing, as well as 3 editable whiteboards and a little bit of storage so you can keep your work for next time.ĭespite being free, this plan still gives you access to all the Zoom features you love, including virtual backgrounds and breakout rooms. Zoom One Basic also offers a limited support option in the form of a help center. Zoom used to allow meetings with more than three participants to run up to 30 hours, but this functionality was reigned in as of May 2022. All meetings are capped at 40 minutes, however, and only one license is allowed per account. Zoom One Basic offers users the ability to host unlimited meetings for up to 100 participants. This is largely due to the fact that Zoom is incredibly easy to use, while still offering robust business-facing offers. Our research found it to be the best free conference call service on the market too, even beating massive names like RingCentral and Google Meet to the punch. If you've used Zoom before, you're likely familiar with the Basic plan, as it's the free plan offered to everyone. Interestingly, though, you don’t see many Gibson or Epiphone Thunderbird basses flying around rock stages, performing at music videos, or sitting quietly at home studios. However, you have probably never played one. I bet everyone who reads this has seen or heard about the Thunderbird bass. This baby is made for rock like no other. This is where the humbucker-fueled Thunderbird comes into play. Sometimes, though, you need a noiseless, powerful, punchy, and crunchy bass guitar with a body big enough to scare your audience. They are more than enough for most situations, which is why they are somehow silencing the Epiphone Thunderbird Reverse IV bass. If you’re lucky enough to own Fender or Squier basses, you’ll know how those are smooth, pristine, and timeless. It takes the best features of the original Gibson bass and translates it into an affordable instrument. The Epiphone Thunderbird Reverse IV Bass is amazing. Epiphone Thunderbird Reverse IV Electric Bass Guitar In-depth Review (4 and 5 strings) There’s something that has consistently improved over time, though: the pickups, the electronics, and the price. Vintage and modern Thunderbird basses have remained the same over the years: winged body, dual-coil humbucker pickups, and the Thunderbird insignia on the pickguard. You can only understand that once you try it, and that’s what musicians love (and dislike) so much about this bass. No other bass looks like it, and because of its body shape, no other bass feels like it. Its design hasn’t changed in a bit, and it still looks as unique and different as it did once before. Over 60 years later, it has stood the test of time. Gibson debuted the Thunderbird in the early ‘60s, and it looked like the bass of the future. The Epiphone Thunderbird is built to the highest Gibson standards. We’re reviewing the Reverse version because it’s the most available of the series, although there are more alternatives like the Pro version.Ĭan you already see how this is such a special bass? That brings us to the Epiphone Thunderbird Reverse bass, an affordable version of the Gibson Thunderbird built to the same specs, standards, electronics, and even pickups. The rest of the guitar’s features (like tonewoods, body shape, colors, finish, etc), are not going to affect the sound as much as the pickups itself. Their best models are mostly using Gibson pickups, hardware, and electronics. That means a budget Epiphone instrument can be just as good as a Gibson instrument. That’s something I already discussed in my Squier Classic Vibe series review. More so, the quality gap between budget and high-end instruments is getting thinner by the moment. And because I said that, I can now name the two Gibson series that are so special they practically don’t need to sell anything else: the Gibson Les Paul electric guitar and the Gibson Thunderbird bass guitars.Įpiphone can be just as good as their parent company…I mean, if Gibson were to sell instruments for honest prices, Epiphone is what you would get. In fact, Gibson doesn’t build much variety in terms of musical gear…what they do build, they do it perfectly. 11/9/2023 0 Comments Dordogne france castleIncluded are a tub/shower, toilet, and sink. The windows, once used by lookouts, were designed for these commanding views. The bathroom is located in the watch tower. From there you can look out the tall windows across to the hills on the other side of the valley. Master Bedroom 2 - second floor A beautifully carved stone fireplace stands adjacent to the bed with its warm red bed hangings. A casement window looks out over the distant hills and valley. Adjoining it and also large is the master bathroom with tub, free standing shower, bidet, toilet and sink. The room is large and nearly duplicates the size of the dining room below. Master Bedroom 1 - second floor Opposite the bed and its hangings a massive fireplace is centered. Through its own door, the tower room shares the crimson bathroom with the 1st floor bedroom. Certainly a great place to be banished to and very romantic, it has a 1820's style double bed and the best view at Chateau Rochette over the pool and valley beyond. Duplex Room Pass again through the 1st floor bedroom and through another door, and you will find a small room with a small table and chair, two tables for suitcases and then a spiral stairway leading up into the tower and the small tower double bedroom. Dazzling! Photographs don’t do it justice. Created lovingly for a teenage daughter during the 1960s - with a sunken tub! - The walls, the floor, and yes, the ceiling, are all very beautiful crimson red tiles. Without any question, this ensuite bathroom is by far the most incongruous part of Chateau Rochette. 1st Floor Crimson Bathroom Pass through the 1st floor bedroom into the bathroom. This part of the chateau was built somewhat later and as a result captured the lower portion of one of the towers which interestingly now functions as this sleeping chamber. A stone fireplace stands against the high peaked ceiling. A double bedroom faces view of the valley. 1st Floor Bedroom Pass out of the living room and up five steps to the 1st floor bedroom. It is a place to relax with friends and family after a day of adventure or to just read a good book. The furniture is decidedly comfortable as is the atmosphere. Living Room Pass now to the living room whose chestnut floors, huge fireplace and dimensions nearly duplicate those of the dining room. One of our favorite parts of Chateau Rochette, it ascends to the 2nd and 3rd floor. Stair Hall From the dining room pass to the stair hall. Light pours in from the facing view of the valley on to the warm chestnut floors. A huge fireplace, high beamed ceiling and stone walls the color of champagne greet you. Dining Room From the kitchen pass to the dining room. The kitchen is fully equipped including a dishwasher, a microwave, a refrigerator, an electric kettle and gas four burner stove. Overhead are huge hewn beams as in all the rooms. Great fortune if you are there during its bloom! Kitchen Entered through the French doors. A massive wisteria clings to the Chateau. When you arrive at Chateau Rochette, you turn into the long grassy drive and traverse the hillside until you are facing the Chateau, its terrace, and french doors leading into the kitchen. It is minutes away from such places as Castelnaud, Beynac – the one-time stronghold of Richard the Lion heart, the ancient town of Sarlat, Domme and a seemingly unending list of places and remarkable experiences. Exploring the magnificent landscape and medieval surroundings will transport you to another century. Château Rochette is central to and minutes away from all the remarkable places and adventures in the Dordogne and the Perigord Noir. It is the perfect place for couples, families, and friends to come, relax, adventure and just be. Modern comforts and amenities have been subtly woven into the fabric allowing the original château to remain at center stage. Château Rochette has been meticulously restored with an eye towards preserving its original features. The château was both witness and party to the Hundred Years War, now a sleeping giant of peace and tranquility. As featured on Channel 4’s ‘Escape To The Château'Ĭhateau Rochette stands majestically, looking down across a valley once lorded over by this 12th-century Baronnie. 11/9/2023 0 Comments Cyberduck alternatives windowsTransmit is a paid FTP client for Mac users that offers a sleek, modern interface with features like drag and drop uploading, bookmarks, and file synchronization. My approval with him is still at 0, and was even at -1 at one point until I reloaded and kicked him out of the party for that particular scene xD (everyone else I cart around has been at +2 for ages). He was one of my favourite characters in 1 (2nd after Zahua), and my Watchers were always really kind to him, which he arguably doesn't deserve at all, yet in Deadfire, he's an aloof, judgemental git. Aloth however, feels completely different. I always play male characters and Eder felt the same to me as in 1. Or please, for the love of god, patch him if this is a bug! Give us our friend back. I don't expect to get the answer "why", but I talked to other fans about this, and we agreed that it feels extremely disappointing, what was done with Edér, and perhaps if we provide feedback, then it will help Obsidian somehow in the future. It's definitely not the Edér I was so excited to meet before the Deadfire release, and the change is so drastic and so inexplicable, that almost feels like the most beloved character was deliberately sabotaged as some kind of a cruel joke. Like maybe Leaden Key kidnapped him and replaced with a depressing clone. TL/DR (and personal feelings ): I feel like this is not Edér. So it's the dead girlfriend and he will never love again. For some reason she's suddenly the only person he could talk about things that worry him, but not the Watcher, who he never had problems sharing his thoughts with before. His sudden fixation on Elafa after 20 years seems rather artificial and forced. Indeed, like Tekehu noted, Ngati weeps for such wasted potential. And his actions say he does care about the Watcher, but he says he never thought about it? I just find it hard to believe. Edér feels stuck and depressed for some reason, and it's never explained why is he like this, or why does he act like an old man whose life will end tomorrow? (He's only 37 years old, if it's true he was 32 in the first game).Īfter Elafa told Edér (in the short story) to find someone who would love him, giving him a romantic arc seemed like a logical choice, especially after everything he's been through with the Watcher. Is this a midlife crisis? It feels so dissatisfying, especially comparing to Aloth, who strides forward boldly. So instead of going forward with personal development, Edér apparently goes 20 years back. It seems more logical for him to have a quest to find Eothas and finally get the answers about Woden and Saint's War, but instead he's chasing his dead ex girlfriend, who dumped him twice, told him to move on and find someone who will appreciate his soft heart, and clearly moved on herself, married someone and had a son. Maybe it's a bug, because it doesn't make any sense to me. He seemed determined and empowered, but in Deadfire he seems depressed all of a sudden. The epilogue noted his optimism and strong desire to help people. In Pillars 1 Edér ended up a mayor in my game. I miss him waking my Watcher up and promising a bucket of water. Before he won me over by being very caring and attentive to my character, but now his friend shares the soul with his god, and he's so indifferent to it. Edér doesn’t feel like your old buddy who've been through all sorts of things with you, like dragons, gods, jumping into the endless pit, etc. I'll try to abstain from my emotions and talk about what bothers me in the way Edér is written in Deadfire, because I need to talk about it.Īs much as friendship with Edér was satisfying in the first game, as much it's disappointing now. First of all: I hope this won't be seen as a hate thread. 11/8/2023 0 Comments Phoenix mercury 9Defensively, they forced 8 turnovers and tallied 3 steals. This energy is then used by the complexes to pump H+ into the inter-membrane space. This means energy is released as electrons are travel through the electron transport chain. The H+ gradient is formed as each successive component of the electron transport chain has a greater affinity for electrons. The production of ATP is driven by the generation of a H+ ion gradient between the inter-membrane space (between the inner and outer mitochondrial matrix) and the mitochondrial matrix. There are multiple copies of the electron transport chain found in the inner mitochondrial membrane of every mitochondrion. Electrons from electron carriers that have been reduced in either glycolysis, the link reaction or the Krebs Cycle are donated to either Complex I or Complex II.The function of the electron transport chain is to ultimately produce adenosine triphosphate (ATP) which is the s ource of energy for the majority of cellular processes. The enzyme ATP synthase is closely associated with the electron transport chain. In the process, protons are pumped from the mitochondrial matrix to the intermembrane space, and oxygen is reduced to form water. The electron transport chain is a series of four protein complexes, along with accessory electron carriers, e mbedded in the inner mitochondrial membrane of mitochondria. The electron transport chain: The electron transport chain is a series of electron transporters embedded in the inner mitochondrial membrane that shuttles electrons from NADH and FADH 2 to molecular oxygen. The electron transport chain is present in multiple copies in the inner mitochondrial membrane of eukaryotes and the plasma membrane of prokaryotes. The electron transport chain is an aggregation of four of these complexes (labeled I through IV), together with associated mobile electron carriers. This requirement for oxygen in the final stages of the chain can be seen in the overall equation for cellular respiration, which requires both glucose and oxygen.Ī complex is a structure consisting of a central atom, molecule, or protein weakly connected to surrounding atoms, molecules, or proteins. Electrons are passed rapidly from one component to the next to the endpoint of the chain, where the electrons reduce molecular oxygen, producing water. Electron transport is a series of redox reactions that resemble a relay race. The electron transport chain is the final component of aerobic respiration and is the only part of glucose metabolism that uses atmospheric oxygen. Complex IV reduces oxygen the reduced oxygen then picks up two hydrogen ions from the surrounding medium to make water.Complex III pumps protons through the membrane and passes its electrons to cytochrome c for transport to the fourth complex of proteins and enzymes.Ubiquinone (Q) accepts the electrons from both complex I and complex II and delivers them to complex III. Complex II receives FADH 2, which bypasses complex I, and delivers electrons directly to the electron transport chain.Complex I establishes the hydrogen ion gradient by pumping four hydrogen ions across the membrane from the matrix into the intermembrane space. There are four protein complexes (labeled complex I-IV) in the electron transport chain, which are involved in moving electrons from NADH and FADH 2 to molecular oxygen.Oxidative phosphorylation is the metabolic pathway in which electrons are transferred from electron donors to electron acceptors in redox reactions this series of reactions releases energy which is used to form ATP. |
